V-Rod trike

Just out of curiousity, what would be the interest/acceptance of a V-rod trike?

I don't think any of the major manufacturers have one, but I may be mistaken.

I know there are several V-Rod trikes out there. Nana Has one. They are very good looking and powerful machines. Major manufatures have kits for them. You would be happy with a V-Rod trike. Motor Trike builds a kit for the V-Rod.

Hannigan and MotorTrike both make kits for the V-rod (I have Hannigan's kit on mine). It does make a great trike! If you are considering one, I'd recommend you start with a bike that is newer than '08 so as to get the 5 gallon gas tank instead of the 3 gallon. It does make a big difference! :D

Yeah, the only thing I wish I had that I don't is a 5 gallon tank. Yesterday I re-created my favorite scene from Top Gun. At Scottsdale Arizona airport they have a street that parallels the runway. There was a G-4 Gulfstream jet ready to take off and I was on the end of the street. I won't tell you how fast I got up to, but the jet won. I've never gone so fast on a bike in my life It was really awesome. It's our secret, nobody tell my wife, LOL

Thanks for the heads-up. I wonder how well they sell b/c I've never seen one in person.

Sounds like a fun ride though.

CSCguy, (central security control?) Hate to seem critical, but do ya really want a peaky engine and not near the grunt of a big twin on a trike? It's your bike so go for what you want. But remember, the HD trike is nearly 400#s heavier than an EG. Low end grunt would be pretty useful movin that kinda weight around. Course, the thing would probably wheelie like crazy. Hmmmmmm, maybe it would be fun.

I've ridden several V-Rod trikes, bottom end is a bit lacking, but once the RPM's are up a bit, they SCREAM!!! It's a wild ride and a FUN one too! There's a guy roaming around in his 70's with a Motor Trike V-Rod with a turbo on it, he's a hoot to chat with!

As far as numbers of them, that's a very deceptive statement. How many Lamborghini's, Ferrari's, Buggati's, or Lotus' have you seen out on the roads? There's a TON of them out there in the US, but you rarely see them also. So, to say "you never see one" doesn't mean there aren't many on the roads, just makes it more unique. I ride a motorcycle that was made for one year, and one year only, the people that have them LOVE THEM, but most people stop and gawk cause they've "never seen one before".

In my mind I always thought the Vrod would make a great trike or sidecar rig because of the natural good torque of the v twin layout, the high HP & torque numbers vs. standard HD big twin, and the water cooling to handle the extra load. I've never risen one so I didn't realize they are peaky, where does the torque come in on them?

The whole idea of this thread was just getting a grasp on them - ride quality, power, numbers.

But, just to clarify - it doesn't make sense to invest $100k into developing a V-Rod trike if you sell 3 a year, so Tricky's response is just argumentative, grumpy old man chatter. I'd appreciate any real sales numbers anyone may have to satisfy my own curiosity.

Like scotty, I thought the VRod would be a decent trike. It's all personal preference until you're talking feasibility and profitability. Lambo's are $250k to make them feasible... trikes won't sell for that. I have a good buddy who was working on the Tanom (think nice T-rex) but it wasn't feasible @ $75k.

I think my comment was taken the wrong way.. I was using those vehicles as a "baseline" as there are about 100,000 or more of those vehicles on the roads in the US, and you simply don't see many of them. I wasn't stating there aren't many out there. Lets say, comparing it to the Stallion then, as most here can relate, there are what? less than 2,000 Stallions on the road?

and you rarely see them. It doesn't mean they don't sell, just more of a "rare" trike that's not seen as often by any means. I've talked to several V-Rod trike owners, they all LOOOOOVE their trike, and I see why. But, it's a beast unique unto itself on so many levels.

The "issue" I've noticed with the V-Rod's is the motorcycle itself, it's a WICKED, powerful, great handling motorcycle with an engine designed by Porsche. BUT, 90% of the "harley crowd" want the traditional harley feel, and style, none of which the V-Rod is. I'm not a "Harley guy" at all, but always said, that's the one Harley I'd own. :D For actual "solid numbers" I'd recommend contacting the manufacturers that make the kits, I'd imagine they track those sort of sales and could provide those numbers to you without any guesswork as well.

Hi All, New here. I've had several Harley's, and have 2 now. A 2013 HD Breakout and a VRod. I purchased a 2007 VRSCAW new in December of 2006. Just about every Chrome Option available, 7800 miles, a lot of engine upgrades, pipes, tuners, dyno'd, you name it and I've done it. The VRod is PERFECT but it's time for something new. My Frankenstein Trike Kit for the VRod will be here the July 30th. I've got the Fitzgerald Motorsport 26T front pulley (originally had a 28T) on it and rip through the 260 Avon rear in about 1500 miles. I got the 15" X 10" and 265/50-15 tire option from Frankenstein and I'm really hoping "it slow me down" and "that I don't go through them as fast as the Avon 260". Bottom line, way to much grunt with the 26T now and hopefully it will be just right after installing the trike.

Picture of the build will be coming. Also, the Trask Turbo is next.

Welcome to TrikeTalk, dnasat! I loved my V-rod trike, and I know yours will be awesome!

That sounds like my kind of ride, nothing like roasting some dunlop:D. Your sure going to have to post some pictures, a turbo V-Rod trikepepper now that would be some real fun.
