Howdy, I have an American Legend trailer that I pulled behind my Vulcan Nomad for a hell of a lot of miles. Just sold the Nomad , and took delivery of my 2016 Tri-Glide. In the book, Harley says no trailers. Any input on experience with Harley from anyone with a trailer hitch would be appreciated.

I had a hitch on my 2011; I never had a problem with my dealer. That being said, it is really a crap shoot how a dealer on the road will react if you need warranty work done. Some will flag your trike to Harley and that can make getting warranty work done in the future a real problem. You will have to weigh the risk/benefits of the trailer to you. Also, you can remove the hitch before taking it to a dealer if you can.

Interesting that I just had this conversation with my dealer. I purchased the extended warranty when I bought the 2015. As the extended warranty basically takes over the the HD warranty, there is no problem under that policy. The only thing not covered would be the Hitch itself. And just a heads up - If you have or are planning on installing a rear bumper, be aware that all hitch unit are not made for the extra space needed to clear the additional distance.

And not sure of the 2016 manual, but in the 2015 it doesn't say you can't haul a trailer. The wording on mine is that the "dangers" of pulling a trailer are such that they do not suggest the use of one. It never says "Don't - Can't - Voids" or any other wording suggesting that it would void a warranty.

i have a trailer i tow with my 2010 tri glide and had no problem towed it to Florida and back home to Arizona and then to washington and idaho also to reno no problems like it wasn't even there just had some major work done on my trike , no problem getting it covered by warrenty

I've pulled cargo trailers and pop-up tent trailers with 4 different Harley's.

Never had a problem with the bike because of the trailer.

I did have my extended warranty canceled, and the bike VIN red-flagged on one of them by the district manager. The dealership did not have a problem.

This was about 10 years ago.

Things have loosened up some since then...like was stated, it used to say in the manual that towing a trailer voided the warranty. It does not say that anymore.

I still would not take the bike into a dealer for warranty work with a hitch on it.
