Had a heart cath this morning which gave evideence of 3 blocked arteries at 100, 99 and 90% blocked. So it's either 3 stents or open heart triple bypass surgery. I will know Monday. I am suspecting my riding season just ended for the year maybe. Anybody else have stents or bypass surgery? How soon were you back out riding? Any issues?

Thanks for ny advice you may care to give

Steve not on 3 for awhile

Damn. But, ask your supposed 'medical professional'. Should be able to tell you. My brother has had them and didn't do too well at first, but seemed to get him back on his feet after some med adjustments.

I had bypass surgery in 2005 and of course, like the duma-- I am, I tried to ride after about 3 weeks. Not a smart idea, dropped it! :AGGHH: Too painful and had absolutely no upper body strength! On 2 wheels then so my daughter helped me get it back in the garage. I tried again about 2 months later and it went much better. Of course the doctors told me not to even think about riding for 6 months or driving for 3 months. What do they know?, a lot apparently!

Good luck with the repair. You have some serious issues that the doctors will be addressing. All goes well maybe 3 months before you will be out and about depends of if they go stent or by-pass. Listen to the Doctors and get better.

If they can do stents it shouldn't be long before you're back in action. Open heart surgery is a different matter and I have no experience with that. I had one stent in 2007 and flew to Florida for vacation the following week.

Sounds like you were pretty close to not riding forever !!!!! Anyway I had open heart surgery in 07 ,spent 37 days in intensive care (but that's a long story for another time) anyway had 12 weeks of rehab . I was riding to rehab after 8 weeks . Good luck whatever happens and do all the rehab ,you'll be glad you did! :D

12 years ago I had triple bypass surgery because arteries were too hard to expand and put in a stint. Recovery time was about 12 weeks because chest bone was split open and needs time to heal. I was told not to lift anything heaver than a qt. of milk or take a chance of breaking open the chest and then a whole world of hurt. You can't drive during that time and forget riding a motorcycle.
Listen to the doctors, suck it up and give up riding till you get the all clear and you'll be way ahead. Educate yourself about what causes clogged arteries and make lifestyle and diet changes to help avoid it recurring. Good luck to you Steve.

glad you found out in time to hopefully get it fixed & hope the stints will be what the Dr can use. I haven't had your problem, but I learned the hard way that if is far better for us to follow the Dr's orders. Hope everything goes well and you get back on 3 and back on 3 for a long time.ThumbUp

Sounds to me like you have luck on your side so far. You caught this problem in time to get it fixed. Don't worry about riding, once healed you can do plenty of that. Good luck!

THANKS Friends,

I have a little experience, 3 open heart surgeries and so many stents that I quit counting, 10 plus. All this came from a little vacation in the Vietnam jungle and getting sprayed with that orange stuff. I was 46 when this started and I am now 67. Recovery is different for everyone. First surgery, I was going pretty well within 30 days. Total recovery was 6 months plus, same for the second and third. Stents usually five days and back to doing stuff. I will tell you, listen to what the doc says, and ask for therapy, makes the healing process work. Making sure you are healed before riding is important, it's a lot easier to heal and not have to redo some stuff. I was involved in an auto accident 4 years after first surgery and the airbag did a number on the chest. Broke open the chest bone and broke 2 of the 3 wire laces. I am not trying to paint a bad picture, I am saying to take your time and heal. I pretty much do what I want. The trick is to keep going. All will be well. Jim

Hope everything goes well for you. Sounds like you at least found out before it was too late. Prayer go out for you and a speedy recovery.

Two things - all though I can't advise on the heart issue, I've had other recent experience with "modern medical miracles". I currently am having great success with a treatment that wasn't invented until 2 years ago. The Dr. even advises that should the current treatment starts to "fail", there are already 2 more approaches (even more recently developed) that can be tried.

Things that were devastating a few years ago, are now commonplace. Don't rush it and listen carefully about what you can & can't do. Most important, DON"T give up.

You mentioned a sleep study. If your study indicates you need special gear while sleeping - be sure to use it. About 10 years ago, it was determined I had sleep apnea and I have been faithfully using a breathing machine ever since. It has changed my life - just like 2 different people.

Many folks don't take this seriously and refuse to use CPAP (or similar). They are NUTS. I even know someone who sold his trike because he would start to fall asleep while riding. He couldn't be "bothered" to use his breathing machine at night.

Whether it be heart, cancer, sleeping or whatever, there is great hope coming along literally, "daily".

Stick with the program and may God Bless you for a successful resolution to your problem. You are in our thoughts and prayers - stay positive and you will be amazed. ThumbUp
