Hurricane Warning

You are so right, Jack. Even a category 1 storm can do a lot of damage and I recently heard it had been upgraded to a cat 2. Prayers for all those in and around its path.

On a separate note, there are a lot of refineries in southern Texas and Louisiana that may need to be shut down. (Just when gasoline prices were coming down.)

There has been some evacuations of oil rigs in the gulf today

Storm is sitting on top me right now. I did all prep yesterday . House is hurricane resistant , roof is fortified on house and garage and storm shutters are closed. So far , a lot of wind and sideways rain. Winds 40-50mph gusts , total rain today about 3 inches so far. Sun up will tell the tale of how bad it is . I’m just outside New Orleans . After 37 years of being on duty as a first responder through these things , it’s still strange to sit home and ride it out. Prayers to all in the path and their families.

Let us know how everything goes today Kevin, if you have power and can post. I'm guessing you probably didn't get a lot of sleep last night.
For me , all is well! A few broken tree branches and cypress tree debris scattered about the yard but I fared well. My house is raised 5 ft and my neighborhood is on high ground and drains well so there wasn’t even street flooding. We only lost cable for a little while but did not lose power. I already picked up the big branches and opened the shutters.
Some of the surrounding areas did not fare so well as Francine dropped 3-10 inches of rain in a short time. Some houses in the New Orleans / metro area had flooding. Many sections are without power. I’m counting my blessings once again!!! Thanks!!!

Happy to hear it all worked out for you. Sounds like you were well prepared. In our area it isn't a matter of "if" a hurricane will strike, it is a matter of "when", similar to your area.
