Fluctuating voltage

I have a 2012 trike and have all of a sudden started to experience voltage fluctuations from 11.5 volts to over 16 volts. I have not added anything electrical to my bike in over a year. I took my bike to Baton Rouge Harley and had them test the charging system and the battery. There were no problems found. Of course on my way home (55 miles) the voltage gauge was maxed out. This causes the radio and lights to turn off. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may cause this??

Thanks

Jason

Have your Stator checked!! I would think it has to be either the Stator or the Regulator.

Yep sound like that. Also make sure the dealer stays on it until they find the issue. You got to be coming up on the end of your warrantee unless you have an extension.

How many miles on your TG? I've had my regulator go regularly at 25k twice now. Stators went around 25k and 50k also and when some work being done at 65k, had it replaced since they were in there anyways. Extended warranty covered them but convincing HD was another story. Interestingly, both stators went day after 8-10 hr ride. 2nd time, I was smelling melting plastic smell. Kept looking under trike. Never found smell. Tucson HD fixed next day when I lost charging completely.

Harley had a recall on my 2012 for voltage regulators, my gage would spike out and then go to zero, check engine light would come on. The dealer replaced it and everything been working normal so far.

:Agree: The OP could have one that is part of the recall. He could check by downloading this bulletin M1325.

take a picture of the guage,. u might swap out the gage & see if it does it again. do you have the ext. warrenty?voltage reg. sounds like its the problem.

Sounds more like the voltage regulator...but have both checked out. I just had my stator replaced a few months ago (close to 50k miles)...at the same time they upgraded the compensator at no cost to me.
