down shift to first at a stop or I think it's in first when in reality it's in second but shift lever won't go any farther, until I start to go then it will go in while I'm rolling. Does this happen to any of you, I was told by the service guy at the dealer that this is normal, sounds like BS to me. Just brought my Trike in for the 1000 mile service and I would like to know for sure weather or not I'm being fed a line of crap.

Are they feeding you a line of Crap..... Does Jersey have Tomatoes......:D
Something is out of adjustment...

If I'm at a dead stop when I downshift it sometimes doesn't go until I rock the trike just a little. The same thing happened on other bikes I have owned. Does it on my ATV too.

You shouldn't have to rock a 30k plus Trike to get it in first...Ive had 3 ATC' And 4 ATV's and My Sons and i ran them all into the ground over the years... And the only time we had rock them is when they were well worn. Not at a thousand miles on a Tri-Glide.. Or any bike for that matter...

Shift

I totally agree......even a quick stop at another dealer will get you a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT story (sounds like a simple adjustment)!

Hope you ENJOY that ride......

If it looks like crap, smells like crap, then you can bet it really is crap!! Adjustment needed.....talk to the service mgr or owner. Don't have that issue with my TG...unless I really forget to put it in 1st at stop sign and take off in 2nd (chug, chug)!!!

The sad thing is I think the service guy really must think I'm some kind of idiot ! Man I can't even tell you how pissed off I am right now. I'm not only going to talk to the owner, I'm also going to call Harley -Davidson customer service tomorrow at the mo-co. I hate being lied to and treated like a chump !

First thing I would do is have the clutch adjustment checked......
and get that 20-50 Harley syn-pathetic oil out of the primary and the transmission.
Put something good in it !!!

I have always had trouble getting mine in first gear but with almost 14,000 miles it is getting better. 2010 ultra classic

Yep ....... CRAP!!

You should not have any trouble shifting into any gear. All 6 of my gears are definite and easily accessible. However, finding Neutral can be a little bit of a pain sometimes.

Called mo-co customer service today and told them what was going on and they said it's not normal and it needs to be attended to. Got back on the phone and called the Harley dealer who has my trike, told them what Harley said and the service person I talked to said they would make sure it was checked out and fixed. It wasn't the clown who told me that it was normal for the shifter to act that way. I don't want to start any crap with going to the owner yet we'll see what happens first. I bought this thing to have some enjoyment riding with my wife ,so far one headache after another, with a quirky reverse, leaking air from rear shocks, parking brake with a mind of it's own, and that damn transmission, all I can hope for is they fix it right , this old man can't handle anymore stress.

My '16 Tri does this, too. I don't rock it, I let the clutch out a bit and then it'll go into 1st. I'm sure something needs a little adjustment somewhere. Can't be normal. I spent a day on a '15 Ultra and it didn't behave this way. Going in for my 1K service soon and will ask them to take a look.

My 16 shifts normal, however if I shut down In gear It's almost Impossible to find neutral unless I move the bike forward a bit, Mine won't start unless i'm in neutral.

Have them put loctite or lock washers on all your pinch bolts. My bet is the inner bolt is loosening up.

30glock, Your 16 will start in gear you have to be holding your brake ,hand or foot doesn't matter.

Wow I'll have to try this, my dealer stated that It was a safety Issue and trikes would only start In neutral, but they did change the Lt side switch pack to verify their BS.

Thanks.
