I have read several posts on people loosing coolant and have no idea where it is going. All I can tell you is my experience with the problem.
I had a 2015 FLHTK bought new. From day one after 300 to 400 miles I would check the coolant level and it would be a quarter to a half inch low. I would top it off without thinking about it . Talked to the dealer I bought it from. Must be an air bubble in the system. Ok. Another dealer said the same thing. Still, every few hundred miles it was low. No smell, no drips, no indication of a leak. One day I stopped at my local adult beverage store and as I left, I noticed a puff of white smoke. Just a puff. WTF I thought. Couple hours later it happened again with occasional black smoke. Damn. Now also showing a front o2 sensor code. Right back to the dealer (8 mi). After having it a week, he calls me up says bad o2 sensor, all set no clue about the coolant. This was Friday. Saturday we rode to Binghamton NY (round trip @170 mi). Sunday I checked to see if everything was ok as we were heading to Americade in Lake George NY in 10 days. Holy crap real low coolant and down over a quart of oil and when I unscrewed the oil cap, it sounded like I opened a can of beer. Now, I know the oil tank is NOT supposed to be pressurized. No one open on Sunday and next closest dealer (40 mi) is closed Monday. Dropped it off Tuesday. They called Wednesday and said it needed a front head. At 5000 mi I was pissed.
Coolant was being burned and air leaking past the valve was following the return oil to the tank pressurizing the tank. They never heard of this and according to them neither had the factory. They got the head on Tuesday and I picked it up Wednesday morning and headed right to Lake George. Great job (dealer #2) ran like champ for 12000 more miles with no coolant issues or any problems for that matter. Traded it here in NC for my19 TG.
