Big test for the back seat rider today.

We acquired our ride in January. With all the screwed up weather since then, we have not been able to get a longer trip together until this weekend. Today is nice and sunny. The wife wants to take a trip to Mena, AR to the Lum and Abner Festival. With the detours around flooded roads, it looks like about a 2 1/2 hour trip one way. This will be her first test to see if she can take longer rides than around town. Keeping my fingers crossed, as I would like to make some weekend or longer trips.

Well, she survived and said it was fun. About 60 to 75 minutes and it was time to stop. But I can't blame her. I was just as ready to get up and walk around after that. When the temps hit 95 and the sun was in our faces, it did get a little tough. But overall we had a great trip. Ate at the Branding Iron and was impressed that a little burg like Mena had that good of a restaurant.

Give her more credit than that. It was hoooot in your neck of the woods today. We left Hot Springs with the intention of going through Texarkana today and found out that you basically can't get there with no bridge. Didn't get any cooler the farther southwest we went either. Tell your significant other we think she's a trooper.

I am using a somewhat systematic approach to getting my wife used to the Trike. She is the reason we have it since she refused to get on a 2 wheeler. For that I am happy because I love the Trike and probably wouldn't have it if she didn't feel the way she does. However, she still isn't chomping at the bit to jump on the Trike so I do my best to make every ride a pleasant experience for her. No sudden acceleration, no fast curves, gradual deceleration, good weather rides, that kind of thing. With her on the back I drive it like an old man. Oh wait, I am an old man. She is adapting well and does enjoy it. She is only good for being in the saddle for no more than 90 minutes before needing a stop but that works for me. We are never in a hurry. My goal is to get her comfortable with taking trips lasting more than one day but I'm not there yet.

It is a little tough driving around right now. They opened one crossing across the line in Texas yesterday and should open the one just outside of Texarkana this week.
Otherwise, its a long trip around unless you know the right back roads. Hot? We haven't reached hot yet. 95 is just the beginning. We made several stops for drinks and an air conditioned break.
