Would someone out there care to explain how air shocks work? You know more air pressure/ less air pressure. It maybe a dumb question but I searched the net and couldn't get any info.

thanks

Minnesota Dick, go to Google and type in Air Shocks Workings:
Look under eHow.com or answers.yahoo.com:
They will explain the working of air shocks, automatic ones and manual ones.
Good luck.

Air shocks rely upon pressure to control their firmness. With lower pressure they will have more movement to them and if the load is heavy or hard bumps are encountered the shock can bottom out and give you a jolt. Of course if the pressure is set to the high side they will far less movement and can also give you a jolt if set too firm for the amount of weight on them. You have to play with it a bit to get your comfort level for solo, 2 up or 2 up with load. I was running 45 psi with 2 up and a load and 30 when just solo. Now with the lift kit on it I am running 35 to 37 with 2 up and a load and staying at 28 to 30 solo. Seems to be working fine for me. Just make sure you use a good quality low pressure hand pump to do the checking and adjusting. A regular compressor and air hose will blow your shock air lines out of the fittings or possibly even worse.
