Items on sale

I hear you and understand where you are coming from. BUT the site sponsors put out money to have their banner on here. You are free to purchase an item where ever you want, but to have a posting on here that advertises products that under cut the sponsors prices would not be wise. Not only would it decrease the sales of the sponsors but the other guy is getting FREE advertising. That would lead to the sponsors withdrawing their ad and then eventually the forum would likely close down or have to find another means of funding. The site owner has chosen for this site to be sponsor funded.

+1......I might add the sponsors of this site are top notch. Anytime a vendor sponsors a site, they are confident not just of their product, but of the knowledge of our needs and understand that all things are not 100%. Willing to make sure any issues are dealt with, and usually out in the open for all to see. I don't buy all my gear from our sponsors, but when I do I am very confident all will be well. Did that start to sound like a beer commercial?

On another note.... What is a fixed income??...:Shrug: If it means you can't spend more than your taken in, Then Everyone is on a fix income... Unless your the Government, Then you can just print more money...

I agree, it's called "guarantee income". Support the sponsors.

I do have a thought. If you drive the sponsors away we will have a paid site very quickly. Someone has to pay the bills. RIDE SAFE

A fixed income means you have no way to work a little overtime to make that special purchase. You have to find a way to do with what comes from your retirement without other options....... Most times that money is just enough to get by without much extra. You never seem to get a raise !
But I agree that the sponsors need to be supported also. Most will offer a discount for Forum members, just ask. Also there is the search internet method that everyone can use....
Just say'n

Wizard......There is nothing wrong with shopping around, we all do it. And everybody likes a good deal and a lower price. But enthusiast sites like this that are FREE for us users can only exist with sponsors that pay to advertise on this site. It the same on nearly all message boards that do not charge the users (you and me) a fee to use the site.

If you find a better price on an item that is also sold by one of TT's sponsors you might want to contact that sponsor and see if they will price match for you, or better yet for the rest of us :D Or...I doubt the site leaders would mind if you chose to send a PM to a needy member with a tip on where to save a few bucks. But a thread on undercut prices would be like you walking into Target and announcing on the intercom that shoppers could get the latest have-to-have widget for a cheaper price.....at Walmart. ;)

Hey, it worked for Macy's when Santa did it in the Miracle on 34th Street movie.:Coffee::Coffee::Coffee:

One thing I have learned as I grew older is the price isn't everything or the only thing.

I look for good customer service and support before, during and after the sale. I will pay a little more for the same item if I know if something needs to be repaired or replaced I will not have hours of aggravation and voice mails.

If a company is bold enough to sponsor a forum with knowledgeable customers the BS factor goes way down. For the most part, we know what works and what we need or want. If the quality is poor or customer support is lacking they will be crucified in a very public way.

I am grateful for sponsors who make forums like this possible, and I will support them before chasing a few dollar savings from some unknown vendor.

Some sites sell item made for them by someone else and ask a higher price. So if u get rid of the middle man guess what u get??? A cheaper price for the same item.

I support this idea, but some times I go to the vendor that makes the item. I get rid of the middle man so to speak. there for the article is cheaper. A loss of the middle class.

You often get what you pay for.

I recently needed a new roof, so I contacted three different roofing companies. One from the yellow pages and two from an on-line search. The first guy showed up in a nice new truck with the company logo painted on the entire side. He was well dressed, polite, knowledgeable and safety conscious. I was impressed. His bid was about $8500.

The next guy showed up in a sedan with no company name visible and he was late. He looked like a college kid in shorts. His rickety ladder almost fell over and hit my car, and all he did was bad mouth the other roofer and make erroneous assumptions.

His bid was over a grand more, and I knew they were not the company for me.

The third roofer showed up in a work truck. He was also very knowledgeable and polite and used a clamp to hold the ladder securely to my roof. He pointed out tail rafters that needed to be replaced, that I was well aware of. But the first two guys made no mention of me needing any repairs. He also offered to replace all of my fascia board and any ship lap roof boards that needed replacing, as well as including replacing the rain gutter that they would have to remove when they replaced the fascia boards. And he was very flexible in MY choice of materials, even if I wanted to mix suppliers. His bid was over $13,000.

I went with the third roofer, as quality was much more important to me than price. They were here on time or early every day, and cleaned up after themselves every day.

It ended up costing me a bit more than the original estimate because they had to replace nearly 500 board feet of roof boards. But I am very happy with the job and how it turned out. I got what I paid for, and not just a cheap roof.

I like most of your idea of a fixed income. If you are retired from the military and live off that and social security you will find out what living on a fixed income is. Not much chance of a pay raise just look what the government did. No pay raise for me. I understand the bills must be paid but if I find something cheaper and same item guess where I buy it. Sorry but I do live off a fixed income, and at the age of seventy three not much chance of getting a good paying job. just try and find one, if you do let me know I just might go back to work ever being disabled.

If this upsets some ones apple cart just let me know and I will just move on.

Thanks for your understanding.

Most good sponsor will price match.

Be glad you have military retirement as well as SS. A lot of us have no retirement benefits. The chances to retire from a company became almost impossible in middle management due to swapping older workers for younger ones on less salary.

Had to try and save for yourself and your future.

I know where you are coming from. I stayed in the military as there wasn't much use getting out and going back to farming. That cost more money than I could afford. Now the military doesn't pay much but every little bit helps. Just look at VA I had a stroke while sitting in the ER and was told to go to my regular Dr. and have her request I come back to the ER and get test done. I went to my outside Dr and he had test done ASAP and called me at home to say I had a stroke. I was lucky as more of the feeling and use have returned to my left side. I don't go to VA for much other than Meds. Its a shame the way the a company can and are treating older people trying to work long enuff to retire. The big wigs retires with all the bennies and the hard worker get the shaft. What a world we live in.
