How To Help A Tri-Glide

A 2 into 1 is a great pipe for making smooth low end torque, problem is nobody makes one for a Triglide. It's hard to beat the factory 2 into 1 into 2 design, a Fullsac Sport pipe http://fullsac.com/product/fullsac-sportpipe/ would be a nice upgrade if all he is doing is maybe a cam at a later date. I would avoid true duels like the plague, they're great at killing low end torque and shifting the torque to a higher RPM which is the opposite of what you want on a heavy trike or touring bike.

A good tune will work wonders at smoothing out the engine, making some more hp and torque, plus cooling it off a bit.

My 07 streetglide, has true duals, with fishtails, power commander, kn air cleaner element. True duals installed to get the heat off the passengers leg, but i must say i thought it was me, it does seem a bit sluggish at low speed, riding two up.

Mid range it runs good, solo or two up, i can feel the sluggishness one up or otherwise. When i go to start it cold it usually kicks back on me if i hold the button down for a long burst.

I think its still too advanced on the timing, but my bud did the download on his and mine, his straight piped heritage 06 runs strong, mine runs strong jus don't like the starting issue, but if i hit it quit it, and hit it again or again , it fires and doesn't back talk.

I have a soft tail oil cooler mounted on the left side close to the filter, im thinking of mounting a second cooler on the rear crash bar, one with a fan on it. $85 chicom special.

Im running a Harley parade fan for the moment, altho the werks fans intrigue me. Never thought the heat would be an issue, an doesn't seem to be on my shovel or evo, but 07 08 are notorious, in this.

Tried some gold-wings in the past, but my feet jus don't fit, and im a Harley guy., but that victory and that Indian, look good, its jus the price that keeps me at a distance.

Any advice on the power commander setting ? don't know of a tuner in this area, but i guess i could ask around. See what that brings.

True duals
fishtail mufflers, longer than the bags
kn filter
power commander
Stock otherwise. with mmm, 3k on the new motor after the old one broke the oil pump in 4 pieces. Thanks:cool:

Is your 07 still a 96" or is it a 103" now? Does it kick back only when hot, or does it when it is cold also?

Maybe it's me but I felt my friends 2012 tri was underpowered but then I realized it was the sixth gear making it feel that way?

I noticed it when running in sixth gear on the highway when I came to a hill, A down shift made all the difference.

Tell your friend to stop lugging his bike? That's a free solution!:Coffee:

He put a thundermax on it and took care of the problem.
I would have to back out of my old tour glide with a five speed tranny before, but I can follow him without extra effort now.

A set of progressive rear shocks would also make a world of difference and it sure beats 6K for and independent rear suspension.:clapping:

96 incher stock except for add ons, Kicks back cold, when hot fires right up. Missed your post till now. thanks

I usually hit the button, short bursts, usually third time she fires, cold.

Hot fires right up, shes got a power commander, fish tails true duals, KN air cleaner, My bud mapped the pc on the net, and downloaded, but i still think its advanced too much.

If it was retarded it should drag to start. Kicking back should be too much advance. But im asking for opinions, so i am asking. Whatca think ?

Whats the cure. ? thanks:Shrug:

Power Commander doesn't have much flexability when it comes to some tuning aspects. Part of me wants to blame a weak compensator, but then it doesn't do it when warm. Doing it while cold could be it needs a touch more fuel in that area of the cranking fuel table, but the power commander doesn't support that. You could try taking a touch of timing out in the 0 and 2 percent throttle area at 500 rpm, I'd try a -1 in those areas and see if it improves the cold start.

I bet the compensator is weak as you think Mike. I had an 07 that was doing pretty much the same thing. The compensator change corrected it. I was running a PC V also.

It's a damn shame Harley went to a substandard design on the compensator, they keep trying to reinvent the wheel, only to repeatedly come up with a dud.
