Gas R= Info

How much gas do you have left when the R= is 0? Any of you run it down to 0 to check how much further you can go?

If it's the same as my Tri-Glide , A little more than half a Gal..
I once went 18 miles on 0 and still didn't run out.. But as they say ;Your mileage may differ..

I went 12 miles after 0 once on my 2009 TG. Put 5.9 gallons in it. It died just as I was pulling up to the pumps. I knew I had about a gallon left when the light came on.

On my 2015 FLRT I haven't figured out yet what the range will be. Only has 1700 miles on it so my fuel usage hasn't stabilized yet. But it does seem as if they light comes on with a bit less than a gallon left.

Something to remember when you are reading the miles remaining. That figure is an instantaneous figure. The computer takes the gas gauge reading of the fuel it thinks is there then looks at what the engine is currently using in gas to run. It then calculates a remaining figure. The variable here is when the computer grabs the gas being used figure you can be anything from really conserving, little throttle going down hill to wide open throttle going up hill. I have actually watch the miles remaining figure change as I worked the throttle. Bottom line its a guide and if you are pushing to not run out go into a conserve mode.

Gas

I'm on a 13 TG and just ran her till the R=LO. On my TG the R=10 turns to an R=LO. I fueled it up and she took 5.7 gallons. Think I had another 1/2 gal left. I find that if I gently rock the trike after the fuel reaches the rim that the air bubble pops and she will take more fuel, This allows about 6.2 Gallons.
I have never seen the "0" on her.

Every bike will be a bit different.

I had a 1.5" tank lift on the 2011 and once the light came on I had a full gallon left. There were a few times I filled up with 6 gallons and had not been sputtering when I pulled in.

I have a 1.5" tank lift on the 2014 and when the light comes on I have around 3/4 of a gallon left. I've also filled it up a couple of times were it took 5.9 gallons and was not sputtering when I pulled in.

This was near Boise Idaho-

Because I'm a "geeky" accountant I keep a spreadsheet with a running total of fuel consumption. It tells me I can go 200.5 miles on a tank based on an average since day one. I do everything possible not to push that limit. I normally fill up before I hit the 150 mile mark. Just another way to avoid stress in my life.

I willl side with "the geeky accountant" on this one. After about 2 hours or so or 120 or more miles, my tired old backside or walnut sized bladder says its time to stop. My Babe on back also lets me know its time to stop. Now given that, while going to Daytona this year and returning, we did make a few 180 mile runs but n o fuel lights yet.

I also was told never to run a fuel injected engine very low on fuel becaus eyou could pick up trash in the tank that wasn't good for the injectors. But it's good information to have if I need it.

I don't like talking to Gas station attendant's, So I just gas up when I need to..
 Any ware from 160 to 180 on the clock...

My gas light came on for the first time last week. I was down to 20 miles left when we found a gas station. Rarely run it down that much. New place, new route and our leader said "no sweat". My Freewheeler doesn't get the mileage wife's Tri or the others Ultras get. Probably my driving style......

FuzzyWuzhe Question

Fuzzy I am planning an Alaska rode trip this summer. Looking at the Roto Pak 2 gallon. How and where are you storing your Fuel pack on your Trike. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Joe
