Triglide and PV-1

2013 Triglide, all stock. Considering the PV-1 from FM. At some point I will add slip ons and high flow air. Want to install the PV first and see if it wakes up the Trike. If satisfied move on to air flow. Does this approach make sense? Should I do air flow before slip ons or the other way around? Would the PV be overkill on Stock Trike if I decide not to do anything else?

Also, I have the FL-Xieds. I assume they would need to be removed before adding the PV-1?

Are there specific maps for the Trikes or do you get a map built for a touring bike?

Thanks for the help.

Yes I would remove the Xieds, they might interfere with the PV. The PV alone might not do any more then the Xieds were all ready doing without any other changes. Your choice about the air cleaner first or the exhaust. You need to remember that the torque at low end will go down if you open the exhaust up to much. Do some reading and look at some Dyno runs that they do a comparison of the stock to the advertised exhaust. Your looking to keep the torque number high in your low RPM range. The air cleaner will make the most difference in the higher RPM areas. That is where the stock air cleaner is the most restrictive. You might want to talk to some of the advertisers on this forum about your situation for an expert opinion.

You have to pull the FL-Xieds, all they do is fool the voltage numbers from the O2 sensors. Have you already gutted the cat? If you ditched the cat already I wouldn't think twice about just doing the PV-1 and seeing how you like the changes. Just a good tune will smooth the engine out and make it run a whole lot better, you can always spend more loot on air cleaner and slipon's later on.

I've ridden a tuned Triglide with just stock mufflers and it ran pretty darn good, surprised me.

FM does have a map for a stock tri glide. I am going to get my license for the trike in a few weeks and will be using that map for the tune. The map is for a 2012 trike the number is 12T103000101.

Thanks for the reponse. I still have the cat and was not planning on removing it. To be honest I am lost with this stuff. My limit were the Xied's. Looking for something easy and thought if I had the PV on the all stock trike it would wake it up. Should I add the air cleaner first and then slip ons? Or the other way around, slip ons then air? Is just adding the PV overkill for the price?

Thanks

Okay I see where you are coming from. I have a good friend who only wanted a little done. 5k miles on his 13 TRI and he is happy. I removed the cat, you can buy the de-catted pipes on E-Bay now. Add a tuner. The one being discussed will work just fine. That's all I did and he is thrilled. The stock mufflers sound a little bit deeper and the stock cleaner provides all the air needed for his normal riding. Even if you have to have someone do the work it is not that expensive. A good shop should be able to do it in 2 to 4 hours. If you really want to replace one or the other slip-ons first.

As Gorilla said, slipons first. You can tweak the tune with the cat still installed, but your going to be limited on what you can do. If you get the AFR to rich you will make the cat run hotter. One of the benefits of a tuner is the ability to set the idle areas in open loop and tune them a touch richer so you don't heat up as quick in stop and go traffic. With the cat still installed, the added fuel will cause the catalist in the cat to run warmer, you and your passenger may not like the hot foot it will provide.

It is kind of funny but all winter I never noticed the warmth coming off the engine. But let the temps rise into the upper 70's and there it is. I wasn't planning on doing a decatted pipe just now but rethinking it after yesterday. Thinking of going with the Wildpigpipes. Not trying to hijack the thread but has anyone used these?

You must be talking about their gutted head pipes? Looks like a pretty decent deal if you can't gut the cat your self. IMO I'd pay the $150 and keep my head pipe for future install if something was to change in the enforcement of emissions equipment.

One never knows when Uncle Sam of State government will decided to tail pipe test, if they do, all of us with tuners and modified exhaust & engines are screwed.
